Lens fungus

I started this forum for any collecting hobby and it turned into my camera collecting and using forum. I use it mostly to keep a record of my photo adventures. Nobody but me seems to have photo adventures that visit here....but however. I have so many cameras now that I forget which is which and which ones work and which ones don't. If you have cameras and adventures you would be welcome to post here.

Lens fungus

Post by PeterN2 » Wed Feb 19, 2020 4:04 pm

Niner, I was wondering if any of the old cameras you buy have any fungus growing in the lenses and do you ever try to clean it out if there is any. My old Pentax standard lens has a little fungus growing in it. The local photo shop said to just buy another lens off ebay as they won't service a lens with fungus and it will be cheaper to get another lens.
Regards
Peter.

I have also been told that lenses with fungus are not serviceable by a couple of repairers.
Having said that, I put a Tamron lens in for part ex and was told that it had fungus in it so reducing the price. I replied that it was only 2 months old and had been used in a dry environment.............the exchange price was revised upwards.

I've taken lenses apart that had fungus and cleaned them and put them back together with generally good results. You need a few tools to take the lens apart and put back together. The tools you need are cheap enough. Try it.

The Pentax lenses are all good and well worth cleaning up.

There are a lot of youtube videos on the subject. Some lenses are more complex than others and require another step or two. Here is a simple fix video.
