Hungarian M38

Post by Miller Tyme » Sun May 19, 2013 6:55 pm

Went to the OGCA show this past weekend and found me a odd 1940 Izhevsk M38, odd in that is entire bolt and It's front sight are all Hungarian/02 marked (the sight is an M44 front sight). Additionally it has a rack number on the top of the but stock that is the same font and is highlighted in the same color paint as a 53 Hungarian mix master 53 M44. The only thing that makes me think it might have a Romanian heritage is the S/N stamped on the L/H side of the butt stock and the Romanian tendency to use any Warsaw Pact parts to make a rifle functional. The stock has a repair to it's heal and it as well as the butt plate, rear sight, and mag/trigger housing are all Izhevsk The bolt has been ground on pretty good and re-numberd, but the renumbering just doesn't look like the typical Russian style. Either way it was what I needed to fill the hole in my M38 group.
