One for the bikers?

Post by Tom-May » Wed Jun 28, 2006 3:02 pm

A number of the readership appear to be motorcycle enthusiasts, so I've posted two photos lifted (without permission) from my LH society (Great War Society) website

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b313/ ... scombo.jpg[/pic]

The bike is a 1916 Matchless Combination with a Vickers Machine gun

restored by the present owner, seen as the rider in the next picture

http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b313/ ... idlock.jpg[/pic]

The photos were taken when the society held a muster at at Beamish Open Air Museum, Co Durham, this month.

Chris, the owner of the Matchless, also has a 1914 Triumph motocycle which he restored and runs (I'll post photos if I can get any)

Any interest?

Tom

Thanks for posting the pics Tom, is your friend with the combo from the North East? I would be interested in more pics if you can get them.

Sorry for being late getting back to you, i have been in Germany for the past week on my bike at a Motorrad Treffen!

Just a few more that I pinched this evening:

First, more on the Matchless: (I think the first two were at Beamish, I'm not sure of the third)

"In action":

'Outside the local garage'

Another, with the crew dismounted:

The next is the Triumph:

This was taken at one of our public shows "under canvas"

The final one is a Douglas - I didn't know he had this:

Taken at Stirling Castle

I'm afraid these are all I can get hold of.

Joe,

I don't know Chris that well (I only ever see him at musters and I've been 'hors de combat' for the better part of two years). I believe he lives near Preston, Lancs.

Regards

Tom
