I'm assembeling my 98/22 and I'm having a problem snaping the hand guard on the barrel but not scratching the finish. Under the wood the blue is 100%, but outside it's it ~40% with a total of ~60% finish left. The bore is mirror bright and the crown is tight.
I don't want to scratch the blue, so what is the magic touch?
