This was posted on a notice board at the Girondines de Bordeaux range which I visited yesterday. Is it worth the 950€ / £641 / $1,253.62 ?

Not that I want to purchase it but I was curious.

Duncan ; Here in the US at least such a rifle is on the low end. To be precise being that it has been rebarreled and additionally stamped on the receiver it's collectability is all but gone.

The stock set would be at least $220 worth of parts over here , but the action is pretty much scrap to a collector.

The muzzle cover is around $75 - $100 .

At $950 Euros...... I don't know a soul that would touch it.

Like I said gew98, only curious.

My bank manager (wife) tells me there are no funds available for rifle purchases :( :( :(

The problem in France is that military calibres are almost prohibited, they require serious licensing so rebarrel to .270 was logical for use! A pity though!
I'd rather have a full bottle in front of me than a full frontal lobotomy!

All military calibers are Category 1 and that requires paper and stamps galore. ALL hand guns except black powder are Category 4, the same paper trail. Category % is a hunting class and it is not too difficult to re-chamber military to hunting or 'sporting' For instance, a company in the SE will charge about 75€ / about £52 to change caliber to .303 sporting. Total price is 490€ / about £340. That would be for a SMLE #1 MkIII* BSA 1916 with cut off.

$AUD830 - Sacre Bleue.

I've only paid close to that for an MLE Mk I*.

Mind you we used to have the same restriction on military calibres in NSW. The solution was to set the barrel back and lop a couple of millimetres off the case and viola!! instant 7.7 x 54.

A few people have been caught out mind you, trying to chamber .303 rounds in modified rifles.
The power of accurate observation is frequently called cynicism by those who don't have it.
