Picked up a 1943 Tula sniper 91/30 PU

Post by RGRWJB » Sat Mar 24, 2007 5:42 pm

I picked this up at the Puyallup gun show for a steal of a price. It has an old SVT-40 scope on it. It's an old Century Arms import Sniper 1943 Tula. This is not one of the recent imports that do not zero of you have to shave the mount to zero correctly. This was one of the original ones Century imported some years back.

Great find RGRWJB.

A Tula PU sniper is still missing in my collection.

I did find a 1944 Izhevsk PU sniper last year though. :D

About the SVT 40 scope.

I bought myself a 1940 SVT-40 a couple of months ago.

I´ll pick it up the first week of May.

Now all I need is the mounting and scope and I´ll have myself a SVT sniper.

Any idea on the average price of the mount and scope :?:

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

A real mount for the SVT will be hard to locate and costly. The last real one that I saw was a couple of years back at Tulsa and it sold for $800 (no scope) There are repros out there (mounts and scopes) and that might be the best bet. The real deal are just plain rare to come across. Also the fakes are so good now that unless you really know how to spot one- you can or will be fooled.

Thanks Tuco.

It has to work on the range and a repro will do the job.

I´ll keep my eyes open.

Recall that real snipers have a notch in the receiver so a real mount will not seat well if the notch is not in place.

Notched SVT-40s

Be careful when you do find a SVT-40 sniper with the notch in the rear. Faked notches have been seen here in the U.S. I had the opportunity to look at some real ones in Finland.

He is correct as the notch is easy to fake. In fact a few years ago a dealer did this to all SVT's he had in stock once he saw a posting on Gunboards showing what the notch looked like.

Only when you say something smart  That was a joke so read it as that.

One reason we do not show the notch on the SVT Section of Mosin Nagant Dot Net nor post these on Gunboards is to prevent this sort of thing. I have even seen people do this to 38's which is sort of nuts as the prices of 38's is already rather high.
