Hi All, Went out to check how well I collimated the re-built No.32 and brought along my son-in-law-to-be with the '44 LB I gave him and his younger brother, who shot my '42/'52 Faz Mk.1/2.
Neither had shot a major caliber rifle before so lessons started at my house, through the drive and at the range.
I'll start with me 'cause it's short...I screwed up and fought the 'scope all the time. Tomorrow will be better. I did shoot it through the irons and it shot no better than most of my standard No.4s, FWIW. ;
The 15 year old had the most to learn and after going through verbally again all of the things shooters stop consciously thinking about, he put the first round half in the bull. ; He was quite shocked that these things kicked a lot more than he's seen on TV, got the flinches for a few shots and finally settled into about a 7" (100 yds.) group. The smile may've vanished by now, but I let him know he should be proud of his first course of big bore fire.
My S-I-L-2-B, after a windage adjustment started to pull a 4" (100 yds.) group out of a M/M'd rifle that I once described as fighting every Canadian battle from '44 on through Korea...single handedly. ; He seems to be a natural shooter and with practice that'll shrink I'm sure.
I didn't even think about a camera 'till it was over with, next time I'll be more prepared. ;

A neat range day...

Sounds good to me. I remember first firing a full bore rifle at 15 myself, along with several friends and we were all a bit apprehensive about the recoil. But it didn't take long for most of us to learn about the importance of pulling it in to the shoulder.
That was a No 4 - and that was one of my first steps into Enfield fandom. I now have a Faz No4 Mk2 of my very own. I'm not a collector, by any means, but I do like shooting my Faz - in fact I get withdrawal symptoms if I go for long without a few chargers' worth down range.
Congratulations to all and especially to the youngster!

Good day out Brad and I'm sure the young 'uns will remember it well.
I was 8 when my dad gave me a No4 and hessian sack full of corroding .303"s.
I had to jam the bugger on a dike and put a cope stone on top to shoot it, I shudder now to think of the damage that must have done to the wood.
However that was what gave me my lifelong Enfield interest.
Remember the camera next time though.
