New to me No4 Mk 1/3
I went into a local Pawn shop and found a poor 1954 FTR'd Longbranch No4 Mk 1/3 that Bubba had mutilated. Fourtunately only the Beechwood stock was chopped (sob) the barrel and action were unmolested. It had a $139 price and the bore and crown are in great condition so I took pity on it. The only marking are FTR 1954 and No4 Mk 1/3 Serial number is A90xx. The butt socket was well scrubbed during the refurb. I am thinking that beech is correct for the replacement stock set, Bubba "improved" the buttstock so I will need all new wood. The store did throw in a screw driver long enough to reach the butt stock screw.

Paul, I'm pretty sure that it is one of the BSA Mk.2 conversions and maybe one of the 'housecleaning' rifles with that S/N. There are far fewer of these than the Fazakerley Mk.2 conversions. A good find.

Now that has scrubbed up well.
How does it shoot ?

Finally, after three range trips, got it sighted in. It came with a very high front sight, had to set it at 500 yards to be in the black at 100 so I had to swap out front sights until I got it right. Felt like Goldie Locks and The Three Bears- this one is to high, this one is to low. It benches just under 2" at 100 yards. I then shot it prone for score on the SR-1 target and managed a 93/100 2 X-Ring so I think it is a Keeper.
