ANyone know if Alfred J Parker are still in business?

Post by dogbolt » Tue Sep 28, 2010 3:30 am

Anyone in the UK know if Alfred J Parker's in Birmingham is still in business? I've tried calling their number but just get a message that it will only make outgoing calls and will not receive them? :(

Or better still a phone number that I can actually call into their business :)

Thanks in advance

They were more or less dormant for several years, but are now closed & sold up. Someone bought up all of their tools and stocks without it ever really being advertised to the Trade.

I bought a SMLE from them a few years back and it has developed a nasty habit of the bolt head un-clipping itself from the raceway track so the bolt head blocks the rear travel of the bolt and of course it wont lock until the bolt head is clipped back into place.

I need a half decent smith to take care of this and check out if there are other underlying problems - Anyone know of of a good Enfield gunsmith in the Southern Counties area?

TIA

Bolthead jumping the rail is normally a sign that the receiver is utterly worn out. It can sometimes be cured by using a different bolthead (which of course has to index correctly, headspace correctly, and then be re-proofed) or a complet new bolt assembly. If you are very lucky, it may be just the bolthead retaining spring is worn flat.

I'm an Enfield RFD/collector near Junct6 M25 and can have a look at the rifle, if thats any good to you. I have gauges, bolts, boltheads and other parts, but would not attempt any modification to the receiver itself.
