Blondie with the ball-burnished barrel

In the "Parkerifled barrel" post below I refer to my No 4 that was one of a batch converted by Parker Hale to SRb specification in 1953/4. As it has never before graced this forum, I thought you might like to see her.

I have fitted a new, long butt in place of the original standard length. It makes it much more comfortable for me to shoot.

Here you can see the 'D' shaped swivel I fitted in place of the king screw to improve the sling location.

Finally, this one shows the receiver ring stamped with the tiny words "PARKER HALE BIRMINGHAM 4" (Sorry about the camera shake!)

This unusual rifle is a real beauty and shoots very well. It is listed on my Firearm Certificate as a "Parker" and not a Fazakerley as I would have expected.

That is one beautiful Enfield Brian a true SRb classic.

You know doubt clean up on all the SRb comps with it, no excuses with that mate.

Now that is one beautious rifle, Brian, (for an Enfield <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/images/emoticons/tongue.gif ALT=":b">; ). I am sort of partial to that color wood. I have two fine Swedish Mausers with similarly colored wood.

I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't shot it in any serious competitions yet, Adam. For some reason I have concentrated more on my ERA P14 but as I have just refitted and zeroed its original military sights, I shall have to bring the No4 out more often. If and when I join HBSA (Strangely Brown is twisting my arm rather viciously at present) I should have more of an opportunity to use it in proper SRb competitions.

I have found that my No 4 seems to prefer 39.5 grains of VihtaVuori N140 behind a 174 grain boat tail bullet. I use the cheapest Sellier and Bellot at £8 per 100. At last years Phoenix Fair I bought 500 174 grain bullets from a Dutch guy at £4.50 per 100 and they seem to perform just as well. The brass is HXP that I get from Fred in the Armoury for £8 per 100 and the primers are CCI. I neck size only after fire-forming.

I also like the pale blonde wood, AJ. Some people hate anything that isn't walnut though.

I've noticed that quiet a few .303"s like that 39-39.5 gn loads Brian, and not just my rifles.

I must take more notice of which rifles prefer the lower end loads to see if they are the ones with less chamber throat and barrel wear.

Yes I use the S&Bs as well with good results, I've also been using the Prvi Partizan bullets recently which might have been the ones you are talikng about from the Dutch guy.

Don't use CCI primers myself as I find they are the only ones that give me seating problems.

What die do you use for neck rezing? I like the Lee collet die and have an old NDFS .303" neck size die as well that I use.

That is one nice rifle!!!!!

Have not reloaded to much for my Enfields, but the No4Mk2 of my wife likes a nice reduced load for target work at 100m.

No recoil and verry precise.

Lee collet is the way to go, have a die for every military cartidge I reload for <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START

At first it looked like the muzzle said "BAIL BONDSMAN", but my eyes are not what they used to be...

It's certainly a favorite of mine too Brian, aren't you glad I stopped you at the last minute before you drilled the receiver to put that old scope on?

I have to say since you took the bipod off and that horrible plastic "SWAT" furniture it does look a lot better. ;)

I have a Regulated By Fulton Long Branch that looks very similar .....and just to prove looks beat brains I switched the top wood which was walnut (it was marked Savage and hollowed so that there was no metal contact) for blonde beech so that it looked good!!
