Top ten low pass flights

Post by Niner » Sun Jul 15, 2012 7:05 pm

A guy I know sent me this video. It starts off with a movie clip but then goes to some actual low fly by footage.

What is that they say about no old, bold, pilots? These pilots must have all have been young I'd guess.

Just as an aside, I knew a bold low flying pilot that lived to an old age. He was the family doctor when I was a child and he flew a pre-war bi-plane.
One of his patients, a little girl, needed some cheering up and had expressed a wish to see him flying and asked if he'd fly past her home.
So he arranged with the parents to have her out on the back verandah of their home and said that he'd fly past.
He kept his promise and came down to near fence-top height and waved to her as he went past.

She was estatic and he got grounded for six months.

This was in the days before the particular suburb was built up and houses were sparse and only single story.

While the spitfire got most of the glory, these bore the brunt of the battle of Britain.

Then again, for just absolute raw power, you just can't beat a P&W double wasp turning a 13' prop.

How about an F-16 so low it raises a cloud of dust on the ground.
