91/30 front sight tool.

They sell these on ebay, about $23, and I have a question.
Why is there a screw on both sides, if you want to go the other way, just turn it around.
Am I missing something??

i bought one of those. it is ok,but i bought an elby sight that is cheaper and it works better. i bought the one in picture when i bought my 1st mosin nagant and did not have experience on MN's. now 6 91-30's and 1 M44 and 2 t53's later i can now say "buy the elby sight tool"

I'm not going to buy one, just curious why they bothered to put a screw on both sides.
Is there a function for both screws, or just for looks??

On the face of it that would appear to be 'over engineered BUT thinking about it a little, it makes some sense.

Let's say you want to drift the sight left 3mm. By placing the adjuster on the rifle and backing off the left hand screw 3mm from the existing blade position all you need to do is tighten the right screw till the blade touches the left one!

What Duncan said, it saves faffing on swapping the screws over.

I bought one yonks ago from one of our old forum members and it's probably laid in a drawer somewhere.

I don't own any MN's now.

Guess it would depend on what kind of Mosin Nagant you have as to how much trouble it would be to use. If you have a regular M91 with no sight hood it would be useful. If you have a nagant with a sight hood the hood would have to be removed... M44, M30. If you have a Finn M39 you would play hell using it at all.....wouldn't you? Looks like it would work on most rifles without sight hoods though.

Or.......... you could just look at the punch marks on the front sight while you drift the sight over to the left.
It makes no sense if the 2nd screw is just a measuring device.
I still say only put a screw in one side and sell it for $5 less........
