This is from the Times Dispatch, an American newspaper a hundred years ago. Notice the "hollow square". No notice taken of the machine gun that would have made short work of both horses and soldiers who rode them. And of course the cavalry didn't know then that their days were numbered at the time. Bayonet practice for the camera. The decked out in full regalia Czar and his assistant. Note the "tough" looking Cossack officers. The cream of the hero crop...in Russia. Then notice the headline. A prediction that didn't pan out any better than the cavalry.
