Tuba Skinny still is a street band although their popularity is rising fast...at least they have some devoted followers all over the world. They have been on a multiple state tour recently playing in small venues. They were in Europe recently. I think they are fascinating and all really good musicians while at the same time with no really great tune that really stands out enough to give them a hit.
When I think of the tradition of New Orleans jazz I think of Louis Armstrong first recording with his own group in 1925. The Hot Five is a classic record. Louis on trumpet, Kid Ory on trombone, Johnny Dodds on clarinet and John St. Cyr on banjo...and Lil Armstrong, his then wife, on piano and some vocals.

I was lucky enough to see him live at the Batley Variety Club in 1968. I still have the programme somewhere signed by Humphry Littleton who was in the audience that night. I was 19 and was blown away by the great man and his music.

Re: Gimmi Some
While I was wallowing in nostalgia above I remembered a place in Wakefield called Heppy's Fish Ole (hole) where you could, on a Wednesday night see a show in the cabaret area behind the shop. Fish and Strip Night!
The link tells you all about it, and the chips were good as well!!

That Batley Variety club had some big name acts judging from the web link. From looking at the building front it just looks like just another local bar some place.
