Tuba Skinny started being noticed as a street band in New Orleans as they would show up in You tube videos and are now often in facebook streams posted by people that may or may not pay them any money for it. They would often set up outside the Rouses grocery in the French Quarter, a place where on youtube you can see other bands setting up at different times and recorded. Tuba Skinny moves around to different clubs in New Orleans now days and goes on long road trips in the US to usually pretty unremarkable gigs. They've toured Europe on several occasions but aren't really famous at all except to a growing fan base in the US and in Europe as well. The girl singer and base drum player has some side gigs and recordings of her own. Recently she was in Europe with a side man playing guitar.
I noticed this video just a few minutes ago. The group was on a Cruise ship as a booked act. I can't get over how polished their performance is...as it always seems to be. There is no music stand and no leader, except the lady cornet player who prompts with stepped off tempo and head and hand gestures. If anybody misses a note or comes in late I don't notice it.

Here's a link to a Satchmo tribute promoted by Chevron. Tuba Skinny plays a number of songs as there part of the occasion ...at least some of the tunes Louis Armstrong previously performed a long time ago.
