Speaking of the photo, what model rifle is she shooting? The upper handguard and rear sight looks like a No 1 Mk III but it has the extra barrel band of a No 1 Mk V. It has a rear aperture sight that doesn't look anything like the sights used on the No 1 Mk V or the later No 4 Mk I. So what is it anyway?

Looks like a Fulton regulated No 1 MK111 or Mk111* rifle for Service "A" and "B" with a PH model 5a backsight for Service "B".

The aperture staff is removeable from the sight body for shooting Service "A" with the military open sights.

There's probably two , springloaded , barrel supports ( similar to the barrel stud under the nosecap ) which are counterbored into the front handguard and push down on the barrel . This will warp the front handguard up , hense the extra barrel band .

I'm looking for one of these Fulton bands , incidently....can anybody help ?

I've never had any joy from Fultons myself but some of the other lads have had good service, seems to depend on who you get as regards helpfulness.

Fultons replied back ,

They said the extra barrel band is made of spring steel and are made for each rifle individualy as the handguard dimensions would vary.

Clamping the bowed(?)handguard and forend together in a padded vice and the band was attached by nut & bolt .
