There isn't much difference in the slot between 400 yards and 900 yards seems to me to be actually useful. Probably be more interesting in the under 200 yard range. That has more possibility. However, try it out and tell us what you think of it. If anybody laughs seeing you holding a string to the end of your nose give them a good talking to.Right-handed. Ensure the string is securely fastened through the right-hand hole on the gauge and the string length between the washer and the gauge is 25 inches. With your right hand, hold the metal washer on the end of the string to the tip of your nose (as shown in the above picture). With your left hand, move the gauge away from the face until the sting is taut. When this is done, close your left eye and look through the tool. You are now ready to look through the gauge and accurately judge the distance of a person up to 900 yards away.
Reverse the above if left handed.
To calculate the distance of the target, (assumed to be about six foot), set up as described above. View the person through the part of the aperture that fits him most accurately. Observe the number it relates to above that point on the aperture. This is the distance that they are away from you, (in hundreds of yards).
