A "loaded" weapon in the house would cause a problem in lots of households. However, this time, maybe only a plastic trigger lock would sooth the nerves of the paranoid beasts around if they were to learn the specimen had already been neutered when created with a sealed up barrel bullet path.

That brings back some memories; we Armourers had to be able to describe the full cycle of operations from “On grasping the knob of the bolt. . . to “, , ,on recoil the body flexes and puts pressure on the copper plates in the forend.”
It was a daunting exam question and could take the form of “Describe, in detail, the rifle from, on releasing the scear to when the projectile leaves the muzzle “.

Eoin, did you get a course in how to turn down a cleaned rifle for acceptance in the arms room by imagining dirt on some part of the bolt or barrel or something else? In training armorers were a pain in the butt. In Vietnam, they were a lot more friendly.

Those are specially made drill rounds :D
In fact, Eoin can probably confirm this, because the barrel is blocked, the bolt does not 'cock' the weapon thus preventing live rounds from being fired. It will feed and extract rounds.

To finish stripping the bolt so I can remove the rust I need to remove the firing pin. A friend made me a copy tool years ago but it wasn't up to the job and broke under pressure. Any sneaky armourers tricks Eoin?+

No, that was never part of our duties, but I have stamped an R on the Nock’s form of Lee Enfiields to indicate a rusted bore to make the ‘’owner’s’’ life easier.

First and best solution is to make a new tool, but then the problem may arise, is the pin pattern. A or B?
Next solution is to remove the bolt head and AND the locking screw from the cocking piece, cut a couple of pieces of copper to protect the pin, put into strong vyce, tighten so the copper gets a good grip on the part of the pin that’s protruding [really tight] and use the bolt to unscrew the cocking piece [penetrating oil the night before and perhaps a bit of heat, like a soldering iron]
Have someone stand by with their fingers crossed 😀😀
