Folk Art

Folk art. Antiques Road Show is often showing "Folk Art". American Pickers are too. Folk art is art, mostly objects of one sort or the other, made by people who aren't "Artists" but they make things that reflect and exercise their creativity and imagination. The object of their art is generally only for their own amusement or the amusement of someone they actually know and maybe even love or like very much that they plan on giving their creation to as a gift.
My father died 24 years ago. In his retirement years he liked to keep busy and make things. He made a riverboat for my children that I confiscated to all intent and purposes and displayed on my den wall for lots of years. He made pencil holder toy car objects for my wife and my youngest brother. Don't know how many such "objects of art" he ever created. However I came by the one my brother had as a result of his death this last Easter Sunday. These objects are valuable to me. Maybe they will continue to have a place with my next of kin when I pass on.
