A friend has one of those Mark 1 Springfields
His has a WW2 dated barrel on it also. His has the hole in the left of the receiver which I understand was the ejection port for the Petersen device. His is not filled in though. His only complaint is that the front sight is too thin to see properly.

Took the 03 to the range last weekend. I didn't have alot of time to shoot it because of the 600 yard shoot that Bob and I were participating in that day.
I did manage to put about 20 rounds down range prone at 100 yards at a SR-1 target.
It will easily hold the black although the front blade is a bit too narrow for me to see clearly. I am considering having a pair of glasses ground specifically for shooting.
The windage adjustment takes a bit of getting used to, it is way touchier than the one on the M1 or Carbine. A tiny bit of adjustment can move the POI several inches.
Still the site adjustments, particularly the elevation are alot more precise than the 03A3 or Carbine which have preset elevation settings that may or may not match your ammunition.

Happy shooting, let us know how it shoots when you find a Pedersen
Device, LOL! IIRC, the original MkIs required a special sear and other
parts to function with the Pedersen Device, these parts were removed in
thr 1930s and replaced with standard parts. The Mk Is were issued to
GIs without any explanation.
