I will see this gun again at the next Puyallup gun show in May. I can email these pictures to you for your research if you like. I most likely have some other things you may be interested in too. How do I get a copy of your second book?

Thanks

I am at RGRWJB@hotmail.com
RGRWJB,

may I ask again for the detailled photos of the Spanish Civil War MN with flat rear sight, you mentioned. I do not know if the show happened already, sorry.

Thanks

BTW: I did not get a PM

I will be patient, of course.

Perhaps you could post some pics of your other MNs with flat rear sight first?

Sorry, seems that I am not as patient as I thought :D .

BTW: Nice Finnish collection!

Karl

You can give me an email with all your requests and I can email them to you when I get a chance. That one I was trying to get at the Puyallup gun show is now sold and gone. I believe one of the Gunboard members bought it. Check their site out to see if it appears.

Did you get a chance to go to my site and look at some of the pictures there?

Also I just put up a new post and this site with several pictures of some very interesting wood on it.

Did you like the C-160s? Thanks

RGRWJB,

here it is: khw51@gmx.de

As I "collect" all rifles m/91 (dragoons and cossaks included) with flat rear sight (there are few known) I would be highly interested to see good photos of your 5 mentioned rifles, please.

I saw your new rifle, a very nice one.

Sorry I do not understand what you mean with C-160? May be my language problem. Or do you perhaps mean the airplane?

Thanks

Yuri

As for the online translator that is my poor attempt to be polite to our German guest. You must forgive me for my attempt at politeness, but the message was from one old paratrooper to another.

Karl

It may not be your understanding of my language but my use of it is most likely the cause.

I noticed in your biography that you were a German Army Fallschirmager. When I trained with the West German Army Fallschirmager unit in the late 1970s we jumped and trained with them for Reforger. I stayed in the small town of Dahn, Germany. There was an old Polish labor camp there in which the Rangers set up home.

When we jumped with your old unit, we jumped your equal to our Air Force C-130, which was the West German C-160. It was an interesting aircraft with a very small jump platform. I also went to your jump facility and earned West German Jump wings.

Did I like the C-160s you ask?.....they were not bad except for the alarm bell going off as the jump signal. In the U.S. military that is the signal to evacuate the aircraft as its about to crash. We didn’t know that. Also apparently you guys jump at a much lower altitude that we do and it was a very short time under the canopy. All in all I enjoyed working with your Army.

Once again if you email me at RGRWJB@hotmail.com I can dig through my collection for what you need for your research. Please prioritize your requests for me as I have little time of my own. During my last trip to Finland I took a few photos of some private collections of some items a bit more rare than your flat-rear sited Dragoons. Here are a couple of photos:

I believe this is referred to as the Very Rare Gendarmerie Carbine. Anyone want to sell his or her house for it? I saw two and a gentleman I know might know where 3 more are. I guess that makes 6 more to find. My good friend and writer John Larsen is holding the rifle. Colonel Nikolai Ivanovitch Jurlov designed some nice stuff!

And this is a modified Mosin action with a safety handle similar to the K-31

No this is not the Gendarmerie-Carbine, as just 11 of those (first model) were made by Jurlov from Dragoon rifles in Sestroretsk. This is a so called "St. Petersburg Cavalry School Carbine m/91" with bayonet scabbard. VERY rare also.

This Mosin action is very uncommon. I have it on my m/27-66 rifle only.

You can see more of this carbine here

http://www.mosinnagant.net/original/Kar ... heinz_.htm

We lost all the photos when we did a server move but since Vic and I have examples of the carbines these will be taken again over the summer. As KH stated - These are quite rare. I know of a few here in the USA and I think a repro bayonet is to be produced this summer as well. I got lucky in the one that I bought did not cost as much as a house  KH has done a lot of work on this weapon over the years, with a lot of it appearing on Gunboards in postings.

PS

I think one of the German members here also has an example of the carbine.

Here are some more showing the bolt common to see in some of the Finnish sporters. I am in the middle of getting one of these - more like the second one shown - out of Finland. Caliber is 9.3x53R

This first one is also in 9.3x53R and is a SAKO factory sporter

http://www.gunboards.com/forums/uploade ... ndSpor.jpg[/pic]

Here is another in the same caliber and also factory made. The owner in Finland added some "no slip" material to the stock

http://www.gunboards.com/forums/uploade ... dSpotr.jpg[/pic]

Another one - Sako factory converted 8,2x53R with original Sako civilian stock. It has the civilian barrel shank, meaning the barrel is a genuine 8,2.

This one a bit different but still a SAKO made sporter from the Mosin Nagant.

Wow, those are some of the neatest Mosins I've ever seen in one thread! But then, I don't get out too much :D
