Milsurp After Hours

Well that was an most enjoyable morning.
This little Vickers is a great rifle. Trigger is crisp and light, the action is smooth and the whole thing just feels right!
The only issue is the sights which are the original iron ones and make the target picture difficult to maintain for me with my varifocal lenses but that is probably the main reason for getting it at the price I did !
The rifle will obviously perform better than I can but to have one in the gun cabinet is most gratifying.





The search is now on for an aperture rear sight or a copy Malcolm Telescopic.........

NEWS UPDATE..............

Apparently scopes made by J W FECKER are compatible so that gives me another option, all be it a possibly expensive one...................

With a view to trying to find a serviceable site and being totally exasperated at the lack of any positive sightings of the proper thing I recently bought this ParkerHale P.16.E with a view to 'converting' it. Not sure how I will do it but at least it's a start...............

Made a start on converting the PH.16.E after sitting and looking at it for a couple of weeks



I think I have it figured out but I need an aluminium block to set it up without damaging the original mounting position, just in case I ever get my hands on an original

Solution;



A platform made from aluminium plate that will be placed in the well at the rear of the action and screwed in place. Then, the sight attached to the rear of the plate with 2 screws into blind, tapped holes.

Damage to the rifle ; - one threaded hole at the back of the barrel which will not be visible if the correct sight is ever found!

Oooooooooo! Just been talking to a chap called Jim Hallam from the Classic Gun Company UK who seems to have some correct sights in his stock. He's moving house but says he will try and get back to me in the next two weeks.

Still waiting for a proper reply re a dioptre sight so I took it to the range on Wednesday and shot 50 rounds. All in the black at 50 mtrs. This was the last 10 using the open sights.
A dioptre would improve that pattern I think.
