Milsurp After Hours

Very nice rifle and good shooting Joe.

I've been using cast bullets with reduced loads for years now.
The powder I use is VihtaVuori N110.
For my Mosin Nagant I use 18gn of N110 and results are good at the 100 meter range.
For my Dutch M95 (6.5x53.5R) I use 17gn of N110.


7.62x54R for my Mosin Nagant M39. The cast bullet is cal .311 and weighs about 200 gn.

I have been picking up some N110 Martin but haven't yet got round to using it in my rifles. I have used the similar Alliant 2400 with good results but decided the Viht powders are more cost effective so I'm in the processing of switching to them from the 'merican powder lines.
I do have a fancy for a Dutch M95 but they seem a bit thin on the ground over here, however, depending upon my pecuniary circumstances, something may turn up.

I have not slugged the bore on my rifle. I have used the PPU bullets that are .264 in. They shoot not too bad, though I haven't shot it enough to work up the best load. I have been using 30 grains of IMR 3031 with the 139 grain bullet.
The number 2 shell holder is a bit slack but I have not noticed any damaged rims. I am using Frontier brass that I got years ago. I converted half of it to 7.35 Carcano. I have also shot it with the top of the foresight at the bottom of the V of rear sight to bring the point of impact down a bit. I was once told this is how the Italians aimed their rifles but I don't know if that is true or not.

I'm using PPU brass and think the rims are little too thin. The reading I've done reckons the RCBS no. 9 is a better fit though it is more suited to Grafs brass in particular for the 6.5X54 MS.
I have also read the Italian soldier was taught the the high and low method of holding the foresight in the vee.

I got round to trying the Lyman X1 shellholder, which fits the PPU brass a lot a better, though I'm still cautious with the sizing and priming processes.

Joe I may be able to get my hands on a no9 RCBS shell holder but it would not be in the UK until after the new year if that's any good.

I have checked I can get RCBS No 9 shell holders they would be in the UK the first week in January if that's any good. They are about 7 dollars. Let me know if you want one.
