Milsurp After Hours

The latest issue (March '06)of Guns Magazine has a large article on the .577 Snider and includes load data. It likely won't be on their web site for anothe month or so. Have no idea if the magazine is available over there. Maybe at an international airport?

They apparently gleaned much of their information from Coyote's website, www.oldyoti.com

He has recreated the proper molds, dies and cases.

I can attest to his work, as I have his Vetterli mold and converted centerfire cases and they perform flawlessly.

Re. articles on Snider loading and more, I have a Snider-Enfield Resource List on my web site with refereces to many(some hard to find!) books, articles, etc. plus some internet links. I am always interested in learning of new resources.

None... Don't forget the things have hollow bases, which defeats any compression - the powder just crawls in there. Mind you, Minies will shoot - but with those sub-diameter ones you have, you might consider patching them up to .590 or even .595, to get a decent bullet-to-bore fit. Don't use any filler either, works best. Otherwise you run the risk of the stuff sticking in the HB, ruining accuracy.

I have to agree with Belgmart. Minies should not be more than .002" smaller than the bore.

Adam, here's a suggestion for a mould for f/base .577.

Assuming that you have a hollow base mould, remove the hollow base bit and replace it with a plug of the same diametre. If you have access to a small lathe then make plugs for various bullet weights.

Or if your maths are good just calculate the plug length for the weight that you need....should be quite simple.
