Eoin,

really need to borrow it for a night and give it a good once over. If it is a good'un then negotiations will commence. But your logic is impeccable. Few things I'm not keen on from the little I've seen. As Ray says (thanks for the input Ray) the varnish is quite heavy, but I can always strip and oil it. Need to have a good look at the scope mounts - well done period piece will be acceptable. Shoddy or modern workmanship and it's probably a no go.
