Have you tried beating them against a rock?
How about sterilizing them by blowing on them and giving them a quick brush with the hand like people do food that falls on the floor.
There is always church you know, cleanse the soul and the wood fibers at the same time. Don't do Baptist, they use water to wash away the sins and cosmoline.
Just a few suggestions.
