Here's some pictures of my favourite BSA "Lee Speed" all original and a dandy shooter, it won the Running Deer at the Trafalgar last year.
The trophy was a a Roe rack mounted on a wooden shield, I ask you a 600 mile round trip for a set of roe antlers, if the loons back home heard that I'd never live it down.
One thing about these Lee Speeds is they like flat based bullets, they scatter boat tails like a shotgun.

Here's a more modern Lee Enfield sporter, a Parker Hale conversion, this is my stalking rifle. The .303" is a bit over the top for Roe so shot placement is everything.
These rifles are really cheap as no one wants them, for some strange reason .303" isn't a sexy stalking cartridge any more. Beyond me as it is ballistically capable enough to take anything in the UK, anyone shooting Reds at more than 150 yrds shouldn't be on the hill.

Adam,
You should have a go at the vintage running deer -the trophy is at least a sterling silver deer figure. Not all that aesthetically pleasing, but worth a whole lot more... Unfortunately, you have to give it back the next year.

I'd take that rifle, as I happen to know a gunsmith with some spare barrels. However, I've not the spare cash, or the licence space, to take it. Plus, crossing the channel is not the cheapest trick.
My Lee Speed took a turn on the running deer a couple of months ago. Once I'd figured out the sights, it proved as accurate as all the big rifles that were there with scopes, I just find the moving shot a little harder

And getting a barrel over on my side of the channel will also be expensive
I have examined and photographed everything on it, now it will go back and I wait till my next chance.
Shot away my frustration with my chinese T53 and indian 2A1 today, wish the 2A1 had the same smoothe bolt as the sporter............
