In what town is the memorial plaque?
That is in the city off NIMES between Montpellier and Avignon in the South. This is just outside the Roman Arena which is today used for bull fights and concerts.

This view is looking across the Gironde toward Pauillac in the Médoc from La Belle-Etoile which is about 2 kms from our house.

Staying on the Gironde, this wreck is of the 'Frisco' at Furt between Plassac and Bourg. She was an Italian ship that was taken by the Germans when Italy surrendered and was sunk by the Germans in 1944, along with over 100 other vessels, to block the estuary and prevent Allied access to Bordeaux. Because she is no danger to shipping she was left to rust.

This is called 'Ghost Train' and fits into today well enough I think. Taken at the same location and 'tweaked' a bit!

Seen in a small wood, just visible from the road. I should think it has been there for 40 years or more.
