I believe that the 'Dreadnaught' (and later the "Super-Dreadnaught") battleships were also the first capital ships to use turbine engines as opposed to the earlier triple-expansion engines.

We have a WINNER. The HMS Dreadnaught struck and sank u-29 on18 March 1915 . Thus becoming the only battleship to directly sink a submarine.

The use of the turbine engine by the Royal Navy gave the developers the boost they needed. All capitol ships built from that point on were using the center line main batteries and turbine engines. However, the US Navy had a squabble with thr US makers of turbines. And to show thier dissatifaction with them ordered triple expansion engines for the USS Texas(BB35) and USS New York(BB34) . Thus the Texas has the only surviving triple expansion engions in the world. That is why she is a National Engineering Landmark.
