Been cleaning the NEW M91 today.
Cosmoline all over the place.
I just degreased the metal.
I'll start on the wood next weekend.
I have to be careful when working on the wood.
I don't want to loose the stamps.

Made some pictures.

You can find the smallest stamps when you clean these rifles.
The E with an arrow is an New England Westinghouse stamp.
Still have to find out what the capital G means.

I cleaned the metal with mineral spirits.
When all parts are dry I will oil them and put the rifle back together.

More next week.

According to Terance Lapin's, The Mosin Nagant Rifle, the G is a mark put on in Finland found on M91 receivers. At the time my edition was published, Lapin notes the meaning was unknown. Perhaps someone knows more now days.

Thanks Niner.
I still have to check my books and notes.
I will also check Lapins book.
Got his 3rd edition.
I accepted the fact that many Mosin Nagant stamps are of unknown origin.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin

You dudes must be nuts ;) Where do you put all this stuff. We have here a passionate discussion after the school shootings. Must be a safety box. Beautiful weapons. Concrats. I served in bootcamp with Mosins. One trick by instructors was to put a backback over the head and then the command was take to piecies the lock and then put it together :) So blind.

We did that with G3 and MG3(MG42).
With a Mosin I can do that todaly drunk and blind :D

I store my Mosins in a concrete bunker, only Fort Knox would be safer(or perhaps Hämeenlinna Garrison).

Would someone be as kind as to explain what is meant by "New" Mosin Nagants? I've just started to collect some and all three are Refurbs.

goofyoldfart.

The Mosin Nagants are "new" in my collection and besides that...one of them is manufactured by New England Westinghouse (NEW)
I admit.....a bit confusing.
Sorry about that.

BTW...welcome to this forum.
I hope you like this place as much as I do.
If you have any pictures of your Mosin Nagants....don't hesitate to show them in here.

Met vriendelijke groet,

Martin
