I started this forum for any collecting hobby and it turned into my camera collecting and using forum. I use it mostly to keep a record of my photo adventures. Nobody but me seems to have photo adventures that visit here....but however. I have so many cameras now that I forget which is which and which ones work and which ones don't. If you have cameras and adventures you would be welcome to post here.

Some sort of valve to switch air flow on a coronet??
Vern.
Peace is that brief, quiet moment in history.......... when everybody stands around reloading.

Good guess, Vern. 1925 York trumpet. The valve turns a Bb trumpet to the key of A. ( I think A is the alternate key.) Half turn of the lever to left makes it Bb. Turn it up and it's A. I still don't know how a trumpet or cornet works ...there are lots of configurations that seem to work about the same as far as pitch and they all respond to the same key strokes. I know the valves play an important part in the sound produced. And I know the length and bore of the tubing makes a difference in both the sound and key. That little loop in the photo retunes the whole horn and directs how the sound vibration moves. And... I haven't found anybody who can explain how it all works in any kind of way that makes any sense to me. Maybe that's much of why I am fasinated with these old horns.
