Here is one version of what was wrong with French. He was not holding up his end of the war slaughter and the French French were getting a bloody nose. He was brought home by the end of the year and eventually involved in holding down rebellious forces in Ireland.

Although many American companies were making war material to send to Europe, at least one American shipping line came out with a statement that they weren't going to carry war material to Europe.

No wonder the story was in the back pages. The Canadian slaughter was only a drop in the bucket of the blood spelled in the series of battles.

Terrorist!!
Well he would be considered that today. Just think of the TV coverage this item a hundred years ago would have gotten if there had been such a thing...complete with a collection of "experts" to expound on what it all meant. Some nut job... known then as a "crank" rather than a terrorist, exploded a time bomb in the Senate side of the Capital building. Too bad there was no office of homeland security back then to read all the mail before he could get away with his dastardly deed! They could have prevented the $600 worth of damage and nipped this whole thing in the bud by getting inside agents to talk the guy into it and give him a fake bomb and then arrest him to great fanfare.... or maybe not.

And meanwhile.. J. P. Morgan Jr was attacked in his home and shot in the hip twice by a nut case of German extraction that objected to Morgan underwriting a loan to France of a few hundred million to buy war materials.

And.. it was the same "Crank" responsible for both deeds. And there was another yet to come that nobody knew about yet. Talk about "Terrorist" before anybody had used the word.

They only had one of his alias names.

So the worm turns. Who gives a crap now days how the wife of a "terrorist" is holding up? Particularly the new wife of a nut job that killed his first wife and unborn baby.

Well... the bomb on the ship went off but was not placed correctly....although with all the things that could explode on the ship it is hard to imagine how he got it wrong. The fire was put out but when it came to port the ship was restricted to the quarantine zone for fear some spark remained and the ship could blow sky high. Good thing we were a neutral nation at that time....if we really wanted to fuel the fires of war what would we have done?
