Nice job with the K98, joe. Maybe the Kar88 just did not like the fodder. They can be tempermental.

Hopefully, some miracle will occur and I will have a chance to get out to the range. I am not holding my breath.

Black Powder: Muzzle Loading Entry

I shot the following target during the MLAGB's Short Range Championhips on Saturday 27 August, which may also be eligible for these competitions.

Range: Wedgnock, Warwick

Distance: 50m

Position: Offhand

Rifle: Pattern 1860 Short Rifle

Calibre: .577

Load: 75 grains medium grade shooting powder with RCBS Minie bullet.

Score: 95

http://www.researchpress.co.uk/pics/enf ... fand96.jpg[/pic]

Some caveats: standard course of fire for muzzle loading competitions is 13 shots in 30 minutes, with best 10 count. Scoring is shot hole must be at least 50% over the line for higher score to be awarded (this accounts for arms of different calibres). On this basis the score is 96 - and I won the match! :D

For the Milsurp Comp. course of fire is 12 shots with best 10 to count. As I fired 13 shots I will ignore one of the 10's (generous to a fault!). Dropping the two 8's, I have 5x10 and 5x9 to count = 95.

I may also be disqualified from this comp as I was wearing shooting jacket. Notwithstanding the eligibibility of the target for the comp. it is a good example of what a muzzle loading rifle can do!

David

ps. The target has a 50mm dia 10 ring and other scoring rings at 25mm spacing. The 2" 10 ring on the NRA 100 Yard Small Bore Rifle Targets equals 50.8mm.

joe, Phil and David,

Thanks for your submissions. Your scores have been duly noted and recorded. David, thanks for at least wearing a shooting jacket. Adam would probably have fired standing there as he was born.

joe, you have the distinction of being in both first and last place in the sit/kneel/lay down section as well as the sniper group. David and Phil are in first place in the BP and offhand sections. The last three categories have but one entry.

Adam,

You old cadaver dog, you bumped joe out of first place by one X ring hit. Now, if I were joe, I would demand photographic proof.

Sarge i saw the target Adam shot on Saturday, and am surprised he only pipped me by the x ring. The m38/Adam shot a lovely little group, I am sure a foto will appear in due course.

Joe

I want to play too...

Ammo-

slightly breezy 92 degrees and sunny.

Stupid rifle was shooting waaaaay high. Ended up having to hold under the entire target (not just the bull) at 6 o'clock just to pring on paper :(

Not a great attempts, but I thought I'd give it a try...
