106.5 million people watched it on tv. The most people ever to watch a tv show in the US.
Says something about the quality of other TV programmes that were on at the time then :loco: :loco: The game would never catch on over here, its for softies! How long does the longest possible 'play' last for - 15 seconds, 20 seconds? In Rugby the players play for 2 x 40 minute periods with 15 minutes between them AND they don't need body armour

Yeah......but Americans mostly don't see the point of Rugby or Cricket, Duncan. About like Brits not seeing the point of football or baseball. Two different cultures divided by habits of interest learned in our youth.

I still say its a softies game and you will never change my opinion there ;) As a matter of interest, how many women's teams are there in American Football?

Women play flag ball in local leagues. My wife played for a while back when she was 40 years old because some young women who worked for her when she was CFO of a company talked her into it. She enjoyed it. She was a wide receiver....back before she became wide. ;)

"Me thinks he doth protest too much."

Why is it Duncan, that everytime sports comes up, you tell us that our (USA) sports are for softies or not manly or not rough and tough enough for you to be interested in.
Sometimes it makes me wonder if you are overcompensating for something.

What makes you think we care enough about your opinion to try and change it?

Yes, I am aware the Shakespeare quote is incorrect.

No problem Vern. I think the judges should take this to instant replay.

Ok.

After further review.........Personal Foul on the French immigrant team.....Duncan penialized fifteen yards. Play results in a first down for the American Wild West team.

:ENG: :GBR: :AUS: :NZ: :SCO: :IRE: :FRA: ( Haven't got a Welch Flag)

I don't know why I do it Vern  It just seems so right to comment on your players all wearing more body armour than the marines and being unable to play for more than 60 seconds without a break for a team meeting

Anyway, lucky me has 3 more Rugby matches to watch this weekend in the 6 Nations.
Wales v Scotland
France v Ireland
Italy v England

That'll do me :D :D

There is a national championship rugby club in Mobile Alabama. National for America. I can guess at their training program. No age or fitness regulations either, looks like. There is a women's team too.
