Now here is a story that is worth examining for a moment. Like for instance.... if the Turks were out of ammo and at the Tommies mercy after having their position overrun .. why didn't the British just take them prisoner instead of bayoneting them?

I think the Japs used prisoners for bayonet practise in China during WWII. At least so the story goes.

There could be a number of answers, all lost in the mists of time but one that comes to mind is what do you do with the prisoners?

Neutral is what neutral does for US manufacturers of ammunition. Here's an idea that probably didn't get much applause a hundred years ago today....anymore than it does now.

Then there was the Irish question in Britain. Draft or not draft was the question. Seems the Irish were a bit touchy about their loyalty being questioned when mentioning conscription.

A few months later.. April 24, 1916 there was a little riot in Dublin that became famous in the struggle for the independence of Ireland. So... maybe the Irish were a little touchy.

America wasn't in the war yet. This was one story on the front page of a paper.

In "neutral" US, Dupont increases earnings ten fold in one year selling to the Allies. War has always been good to some big business interests. Still is.

That's $1,257,192,754.34 in 2016 dollars.
