To make sure that the powder charge is seated in the breech I made this . 10mm o/d aluminium tube with a funnel at one end and a cut away at the other so the powder will sit in a 'controled heap'
This will also serve for my Jaipur HEIC Bess with a similar length barrel to the Whitworth. Talk about FRUSTRATED................I keep saying " Range on Sunday " because to all intents and purpouses the Whitworth is ready - but with temperatures above 38ºC / 100ºF recently and holiday traffic on the route to the Club which, including shooting time makes for a 5½ hour afternoon every day is a non starter! So, I am going to try for next Wednesday afternoon, 14:00 - 18:00 when the forcast is for 26ºC / 79ºF!

I'm about to take the Sunday trip to take my wife to visit her 95 year old mother. It entails making a trip on Interstate 10 through a tunnel and onto a 7 mile bridge to the other side of Mobile Bay. Some Sunday's in the summer, when people are traveling the Southern most US East West interstate highway it takes as much as an hour to run that 7 miles of highway. The problem is each direction needs three lanes and has only two and the tunnel, instead of a high rise bridge, slows people down to a crawl. Then throw in a car run out of gas or a wreck and things get worse fast. The usual problem is probably because of big trucks naturally slowing on the downward curve into and out of the tunnel and people unused to tunnels slowing even more and hundreds of cars stacking up with each individual slow down. We need a new highway with a high rise bridge. It's in the works but when it's done in a half dozen years, it will cost a coupled billion dollars with the state and the Feds only contributing part of the cost, much of the cost will turn it into a toll road. Don't see how taking tolls will help....unless they do like the toll roads in Florida near Disney World. Those toll fees are mailed to you from a computerized camera list of license plate photos. Great idea.....although Interstate highways should be free I'd think. Instead we are financing the start up of WWIII with both Ukraine and Gaza.

Here, where I am it's been hovering around high 90's every day. Two days ago it was a record 101. But the big thing is the humidity. 70% humidity is like walking into a sauna and it's not a good time of year for outdoor activities.

Good result for a first shoot at 50 mtrs. Needs some slight adjustments but nothiong drastic.............

I now come to the last part of the work.
Some oik made a bugger of the foresight area and it needs to be cleaned and re blued so, as I usually do, I thought I would record the work .
I am using a Birchwood Casey Perma Blue kit and started by cleaning away the crud and rust with some alcohol and fine P400 abrasive paper. I will be getting some work gloves today and that will allow me to handle the chemicals....

I've used those nipple guard shields before. On my rifles the proximity to the wood was closer so I turned the shield around so the high part was nearest the wood.

I've used Birchwood Casey before when making kit guns. Works great when you do it right and the metal is clean of all traces of oil. They make a browning stain too. Works about the same way as I remember.

I took a snap of two of my rifles with the brass shields. Looks like I haven't dusted them in a while.

Saw this image and statement on a Facebook page called War History Online. Must have been a shortage of correct pictures. Whatever that rifle is, looks somewhat period, unlike the scope that seems decades before it's time. There are a few other weird things....like the bandoleer of bullets.
