And wouldn't a sniper use a long barrel rifle, maybe he should pull the hammer back before he fires? ....
That modern scope has mounts that would put the rifle butt under his armpit. ....
The sling looks like it will fit around the horse's neck and hang from the saddlehorn.

Well, appart from the picture and the description it is correct  :loco: The trials rifles at the time only shot to 900 yards and the Enfield P53 that was used as the rifle to shoot for the military couldn't produce regular groups past 600 yards!
Because of the cost of the Whitworth it was never adopted by the British Army and went on to be used for target shooting, mainly by Volenteers.......

Managed to find some workshop time and made a new rammer.
Whitworth Hex Rammer #3 web.jpg
8mm dia aluminium tube. made a hex guide that spins freely when introduced to the barrel. It is mounted on a countersunk headed stud which is captive in the aluminiul tube with two split studs. The nylon washers pevent the guide from sticking on the aluminium.

Looks like you invented a solution to the ramrod for the spiraling twist. I've made a couple regular loading rods for my BP rifles. One was fiberglass and the other was a hickory rod that I soaked in tung oil to toughen it up and added a round wood knob on one end and a brass ball pusher on the other. On mine I put a ring of tape around the shank to mark when a favored charge would be fully seated.

Had a look, good thinking; a slight colour difference shouldn’t be noticeable.
I once joined a new front section of a SMLE fore end with the join under the outer band.

You say in your post the first attempt went south because the bluing was contaminated. I suspect you did get some new bluing, right? Maybe that "gun blue" in the red and white container?

I haven't blued anything in years...but used the same Birchwood Casey bluing and instructions. I also "browned" a barrel once. About the same way doing it as bluing as best I remember.

Tapatalk...is full of advertisements and as predatory as ever to anyone just looking at a post. And it's attracting people because people have been desensitized to being used as bits of trafficable information and don't care. Maybe they think the sites that attract the most advertisement must be the most important for no logical reason. Milsurp After Hours, unloved as it seemingly is now, doesn't bombard you with any advertisements at all and you don't get your name, email address, and image collected and given to anyone. Here, nothing is collected from unregistered users. Users who are registered here, their information is not shared with anyone for profit as on Tapatalk and the only information this site records of registered users is handle and a usable email address at the time of registration.

Easyboard was Tappatalk's first version 20 years ago when I used it when first attempting a messageboard. After several colossal failures of their servers that ash canned much of the then site, a different path was taken with a stand alone site and a server that was rented and controlled by nobody but myself and my son, a computer programmer by trade. It has not been exempt from crashes but has never been predatory to the users.
