Nice shooting yourself there, Michael. You dropped Old Fuzz Face down even lower.

My MAS-36 ugly????

It is really ugly, MM, but it was really cheap and in great condition: NFODO (Never Fired. Only Dropped Once.)

Practically a virgin.

The ammo was also cheap. It smells like they loaded it with fecal matter. (I did not want to use the word "shit" for fear of upsetting Adam's delicate, fond feelings towards this rifle. After all, it was named after him.)

As for the X's, all I have to say is that you had that coming after shooting the Kommission 88 on a sunny, 70 degree day and beating my Komm 88 score. You could have at least shot it in the same crappy conditions that I had.

Probably My Last Entry

Post by SgtJethro » Tue Apr 18, 2006 10:06 pm

I shot this card on Saturday and it will probably be my last for this match. Sunday night was spent in the local emergency room following a bit of a tumble that resulted in a several broken ribs. I have been put on a very restricted activity regime for the next six weeks.

Rifle: Springfield Trapdoor .45-70 with M1879 rear sight.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... _1879a.jpg[/pic]

Ammo: Handload. Cast 405 gr RNHB bullet from Lee mould, sized 0.459. AA-5744, 26.7 gr. Winchester brass and LR primers.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/0603/ ... 9_85-1.jpg[/pic]

Score: 85.1

With this load, I was using a six o'clock hold on the orange at 100 yards. The original Trapdoor front sight blade was switched out and replaced with one for a 1903 Springfield in order to get extra height.

Ribs..

Post by mozark » Wed Apr 19, 2006 7:01 am

Sorry to hear about your ribs, AJ. Cracked or floating breaks? Don't know if you've broken any before, but take heart, after the first week (it only hurts when you breathe) it get's much better.

MM,

I got one of each. As long as I maintain a good level with the meds, it is not too bad. The worst part is trying to find someplace and some position to get some sleep. The longest snooze that I have managed thus far is 2 1/2 hours. I would give almost anything for a full 8 hours.

Now that the weather has turned absolutely fantastic, it is really hard to be couped up, unable to do much.

Eoin,

Hell yes it was embarassing, but I have absolutely no self-pride left.

I was taking my three dogs out for a last walk Sunday night. I had them on those 23 ft, self-retracting leads. The damned Easter Bunny was sitting in the yard, munching on my grass. When he saw the dogs and I step out of the garage, he took off. The 35 lb beagle, 60 lb shepard, and 90 lab bolted after the rabbit. I was not watching and was not fast enough to left go of the leashes. When they hit the 23 ft limit, I went airborne.

I attempted to execute a tuck-and-roll PLF like they spent three weeks teaching me at Ft Benning, but screwed that up royally. Landed pretty hard on the gravel driveway. At that point, I flawlessly played the "I've fallen and I can't get up" routine. Soon I had three dogs licking my face and my wife standing over me saying, "Did you hurt yourself?"

I had the wind knocked out of me and that prevented from answering her wind the "No dear, I am not hurt. I just thought that I would imitate your family and lie down in the street like a common drunk!" I guess that having the wind knocked out of me probably saved my life.

ouch...

Post by mozark » Thu Apr 20, 2006 12:46 pm

One of each, oh dear. I had a floating break in the back country about 15 years ago. The only lasting damage was from not having it x-rayed within 48 hours. Blue Cross doesn't recognize injuries after 48 hours elapse (I didn't modify the time frame.) Argued with them for a year. You don't win those.

Silence is often the wise course, isn't it? Enlisting the dogs to assist with such character building is a novel approach, AJ.

Sarge,

I see what your problem was.

To much lead for that velocity

With sympathy,

Eoin.

A mauser

Post by mozark » Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:00 pm

My 98-22 Mauser. A well worn old gal, but still shoots well. Maybe a generous 15% finish above the wood, but near 100% blue below, and a lovely dark walnut stock. The bolt is mis-matched of course, and the floorplate, but everything else matches.

Speer 170 gr. Semispitzer

47.5 Varget, COL 2.995"

100 yards, prone. Score 90/1X.

Two of these shots seem too close to call. I scored 1 up and 1 down. But this could be an 89 or a 91.
