The "right" side. Opposition to the war was not an option. Those against the war were abetting "brute force" and weren't good Americans.....maybe even traitors. Including, of course, the German American press in the bottom right.

Remember the movie of Turner Classic Movie vintage with the title of The Fighting 69th? The actual regiment is a New York National Guard unit with a long history. Back when the war was new to the US they got a rousing send off.

The movie:

In Vietnam soldiers in the delta didn't carry any of that stuff. We didn't even wear underwear so what would we have needed an extra pair for. Socks in the rainy season would only give you trench foot or ringworm. I got more than a feeling that when troops reached the real war much of that civilian army "field" flotsam would have been jettisoned.

A story that doesn't go along with history. "Fake News" of the 1917 version. The Washington Herald posted this attached story but the real story for the SMS Seeadler... a sailing ship from the clipper ship era that was a famous German Raider is different. No telling what the newspaper account is really about.
On 2nd August 1917, she ran aground on a reef at the island of Mopelia. With a crew of five, Kapitänleutnant Felix von Luckner set sail in an 32-foot launch for the Fiji Islands. On arrival at Wakaya Island they were taken prisoners.
The 58 crew remaining at Mopelia captured the French schooner Lutece of 126 tons on 5th September 1917 and sailed to Easter Island as Fortuna under the command of Lieutenant Alfred Kling. On 4th October they arrived and ran aground again 2 days later at Hanga Roa. On 13th February 1918 the crew sailed again on the Chilean schooner Falcon to Talcahuano, Chile arriving 4th March. There they were interned by the Chilean Government.

The Russian army is having a problem with esprit de corps ....and they like to shoot their Regimental commanders too. A little thing like a revolution plays hell with waging war against Germany.
