Another idea that seems to work for the serious target man is the ram-rod that has a spring loaded handle with a scale that shows poundage applied in seating the bullet; or even just a mark for consistency.
Not really applicable for field use, unless you have a couple of bearers.

Robert,
Some time ago you posted Sam Fadala's load data for the cal .45 LePage pistol (data for Pyrodex P included).
Now I need the data for a cal .36 LePage for one of the members of our gun club.
I made some calculations and 15 gr should be just right for this pistol on a 25 meter range.
Could you check Sam Fadala's manual please?

Sam doesn't have a single shot pistol like the LePage listed in 36 caliber. I couldn't find one in Dixie either of the LePage style. Nearest I could find was a percussion 38 Caliber in a style much like a LePage.....in the Dixie catalog. It shows 15 grains FFF as the suggested load.
My guess would be that 15 grains should be a likely load. However, Sam shows a 36 caliber under hammer single shot with a range of 20 to a max of 30 grains. But the gun you are talking about is as much a mystery to me as it is to you and your friend. If it were me I'd keep the charge down well under 30 grains if I were going to shoot it.

I will set the starting load on 15 gr and tell him to work it up to 20gr Pyrodex P.

He tried the 15gn test load in the LePage and it performed FANTASTIC.
He bought the pistol with a small amount of BP, but he already told me that he will change to Pyrodex P.

I agree Duncan.
Besides happy he was very surprised.
He heard a lot of " not so good things" about Pyrodex and he was very surprised that results (both shooting and cleaning) with this powder were that good.
He's convinced now.
He's happy, I'm happy.
