It's a Lamprey Eel. I remember them from when I was a kid. They book says they were up to 40 inches. (100cm) I remember some that were bigger than that, but maybe because I was smaller then. They were a nasty creature. They chew into the side of fish and suck their blood.

Ah yes, we have them in the Gironde Estuary here, the French eat them.
