After buying a 43 Izhevsk M44 last week I only needed one more M44 to complete my Russian string of M44's. Well my quest for my hex reciever 45 Izhevsk M44 is over. After deciding last week that is what I wanted i set off on a search and figured it would take quite a while to find one. Well I found one on Gunbroker rather fast, but I also found a posting on Gunboards from Eric @ Aim stating he had a couple of "non-Tula" hex reciever M44's in stock so I decided to snap them both up and hope to get a 1945........( and maybe even a 1944 to boot)

Well I am pleased to say I now have my Hex reciever 1945 Izhevsk M44, rather I have 2 of them, and am very pleased with both.

Now the hard part, deciding if I am going to keep them both

That's interesting. I wasn't aware that there were any hex receiver M44's. I have a hex receiver 91/38 , but they were all second line rifles made from old rifles. Mine has a 1905 original receiver.

During WW2 the Russians used a few recycled recievers in the production of Mosin Nagants, mostly at the Tula arsenal and mostly round recievers, which largely go un-noticed unless they are taken down and the tang dates checked. Starting in late 44 onward Izhevsk seemed to also recycle recievers, mostly for M44's. I have a 1943 Tula hex reciever 91/30 as well as a set of 1944 Tula Mosin Nagants on recycled hex recievers ( 91/30-M38-M44 & a 91/30 MO quad date) but had no luck in getting a 45 Izhevsk M44 ( the most common if there is such a thing) until now.

I will have to post the Tulas up sometime as they are really a cool site to see.

I've got a 91/30 Tula with a hex receiver. The bolt number matches the receiver, not a renumber.....but....looks like the receiver may have been marked over with the new Tula symbol and the 1935 date.
