This post has been recomposed to show the rules as amended. The contest is now set.

Contest to begin April 13 and to finish May 25, 2013.

This is a postal style match. Contestants should photograph their shot target and send the photo jpg, along with score achieved, to Niner by PM at this site. Mention the kind of rifle used...include a photo of it, if you wish, when you pm your target and score.

Registered users who have at least a post count of 12 before the contest begins are allowed to participate. Anyone who enters does so assuming total responsibility for any liability as a consequence of their shooting activities and holds the site blameless for any misadventure that occurs.

Any milsurp bolt action rifle in a class of about 30 caliber can be used. Shooters choice. Enfields, Mausers, Nagants Springfields...etc.

Ten rounds only. No more than ten holes to be seen anywhere on target. No tape over holes are allowed anywhere on the target.

Any firing position is allowed. Bench, trench, belly on the ground. We don't care.

To be fired at any legal firing range according to all rules and laws of your range, country and location.

Distance 50 meters/ 50 yards. Since some ranges measure in yards and some in meters and some are only guessing actually anyway, this will have to do for distance.

Any kind of sight. No restrictions. Scopes are ok too. That way old half blind guys can play too.

No ammo source restrictions. Surplus or store bought or roll your own.

Any hit that cuts a line will count as the higher score regardless of how much of the hole is above or below the line.

The target is the one Duncan picked last. Print it at the Original size of the download. US prints will show a lack of color on the edge of the outside ring on one side. However all printers ...European, American, Australian, and probably everywhere else will be shooting at the same target in size.

Duncan's found printable target that is the choice of the contest:

Winner to be awarded a small engraved token of some sort, paid for out of donated site funds already received, and presented at the completion of the contest.

All scores will be kept secret by Niner until the finish of the contest. One submission per contestant only.

Went out to the range to see what would happen shooting this target at 50 yards. I used a M1 Carbine...not bolt action and not in the allowed class accordingly.....but the idea was to shoot iron sight with not particularly good eyes to see how visible the target was.

Works ok. Even I could see it clearly. The eventual winner is going to really knock the center out this target I suspect.
