Why doesn't some organization buy it, preserve it, and set it up as a historical site for anyone who cares to visit? In the US I get letters all the time from the Civil War Preservation Trust requesting money to buy up additional land at Civil War historic sites to keep the places from becoming shopping centers or subdivisions of track houses. Judging by the Brit TV shows I see still on PBS, the Brits still have a strong connection to the World Wars, and rightfully so considering the cost in lives, why no serious organization in place to preserve the physical history as much a possible?

What about a non profit trust? The UK have any of those?

You don't give money to any government to protect property that would be worth keeping .....they would just screw it up. You buy it from the government and manage it in an intelligent way.

That's OK Robert but just think on this a while.
How many WWII Aircraft are kept flying in the US?
Now see how many still fly in the UK!
And there is ONE V Bomber left flying and that is in spite of the government - not because of it.
