In my opinion, take it or leave it and to each his own.......as far as bolt actions of the early last century go, the Lee Enfield is pretty advanced....it loads and shoots faster than the rest. It is , arguably, as accurate as any other nations bolt action rifle. It has suitable range. It is robust and functions in all sorts of environments. It holds more rounds that other rifles in it's class. It fought every place the British fought in WWII..and WWI as well, in a slightly different earlier edition.

However, when the M1 Garand came along, in WWII, and shot and loaded faster than any bolt action rifle and was semi -automatic to boot...and fought in as many places as the Enfield, although not always the same places... well.... the SLE rifle was reduced to bragging discussion among it's own class of weapon. It's sun had set along with the British Empire.

A friend of mine that I mentioned on the old forum, the late Frank Adlam, was on his way to being a wealthy man till the Japs took him prisoner in WW II.

Frank used to bet Americans that he could fire 8 aimed shots out of his N0I Mk III before they could do the same with a Garand; Frank rarely lost.

All depends how you view England as an island or part of the European continent
Canada & America
Australia
India & Pakistan .
