Found this nice little rifle today:

Based on a 1895 Tula M91.

Great lookin rifle you bought yourself there Chris and a great shooter it is too.

I like the mosin Nagant carbines and cutdown rifles.

Some time ago I bought myself a mismatched M44 and an all matching 91/59 that looks just great .

BTW I bought both of them in Germany.

You don't see these kind of rifles and carbines a lot over here and when you do they are way over priced.

My M44 shoots about the same as your 91/38, nice group but a bit to the left using reloaded ammo with a reduced load and a casted bullet.

I haven't been to the range with the 91/59 yet.

I've been to busy cleaning it.

The rifle was cheap, only 139 Euro.

The Dealer had a M91/59 too, but I did not take it and now it is gone.

If you are interested, he has also a very nice chinese T53 there, also a finn M91 with B barrel.

I used my copy of the finn D cartidge for shooting that group, kick good, but is precise.

The frontsight was a little bend to the right, fixe that and now it should hit right spot on.

Will test it next sunday.

Had once a hungarian M44, this gun was a real good shooter, but I did not like the Bayonet on it, sold it away

Too bad about 91/59 , but you'll find another one Cris.

BTW.....I just love those bayonets on the M44 models.

I think it makes them look a bit special.

Over here you imediatly draw a crowed on the range when shooting an M44.

Hello Martin!

Finn D Cartridge:

Case: Lapua or S&B

Bullet: Lapua D166

Powder: N140, 45grn

OAL: 76mm

Primer: CCI or S&B LR

You can also use PPU cases, but than you must put 46grn in, the inner case volume is higher of those PPU cases.

This data only do good in finn ore rusian rifles with .310" ore wider bores.

Do NOT use them in finns with bores .309" or tighter!!!!!

For them use the Lapua D46 185grn with the load date from Lapua.

The D46 bullet would be OK for my M39.

It has a .308 bore.

M39s do normaly have .310" bore diameters, because they were costructed to use the D-Cartridge.

They are mostly not stamped D on the chamber, because D was the normal chambering is that time.

Older types were converted by reaming the chamber to D specification and got a D stamp on the barrel to show, that D cartriges can be used. As well did teh captured russian rifles.

I have only 2 guns, wich will not take D cartriges, one is a 1936 M28/30, wich is not D stamped and a post war, no maker no date M28/30.

Just slug the bore uf your M39 again(I use 8mm muzzle loader bullets for that) and measure with a good(digital) caliper or a micrometer screw.

I sluged my bore again, even cleaned it and checked again.

Fields are 7,62mm, grooves are 7,87mm.

According to the info I found in a copy of the german magazine "Visier" this makes it a .308 bore and I can use .308 bullets.

I've been using .308 bullets for a long time now and having great results with them.

Recently I bought myself a few .308, 168 gn HPBT bullets manufactured by Prvi Partizan and the results were even better.

Is it so unusual to have a Mosin Nagant M39 with a .308 bore Chris

Reason I ask you this is, because I've had this question about three or four times now .

I'm no expert on Mosin Nagant rifles and carbines Chris(although I'm trying to become one) but I can measure.
