Stranded on an ice sheet since 1947, a NASA mission recently spotted the B-29 Superfortress that made an emergency landing in Greenland near the beginning of the Cold War.

The image tagged May 1 by the Earth Observatory‘s Digital Mapping System, an instrument on NASA’s P-3 Orion airplane that was conducting Operation IceBridge, shows the Kee Bird plane.

This is old news, they tried to fly this thing off the ice in 1995, after replacing the engines,
but they did something stupid and the APU at the back of the plane caught fire. And sadly
the thing burned up before it could take off, total loss. Not sure why it's news today, it's
location has been known for years. Unsure how much they were able to salvage after the fire,
hopefully at least they could save the rebuilt engines......I don't remember.
The last couple minutes of this video are enough to make you cry.................
