Counter bore on M38

I am hopefully heading out tomorrow to shoot my targets for the Spring Shoot.
So today I was going over my M38 which I will use for the shoot, and was surprised
when I looked at the counter bore and decided to actually measure it.
At exactly one and one quarter inches, it is longer than I thought it was. Is this a common
depth, it just seems longer than I thought it should be.
What say ye......

I have seen counterbores go up to 2" on Mosin Nagants Vern, the rifle in question has probably been refurbed a couple of time and got counterbored during each rebuild. Those steel cleaning rods real do a number on the rifling near the muzzle. Most of my best shooters have been counterbored.

Well, I shot my targets today for the Spring Shoot. And the counterbore is going to be
but one of the many excuses I am going to have to come up with to explain my poor scores....
By the time you counterbore an M38 and inch and a quarter, leaves you a pretty short barrel.....
