....................OF THE BUILD :GBR:

Well, the kit has arrived - 15/10/2014, my 65th birthday so what better day to receive it than the first day of my retirement

Going to take some time to look at it in detail before I start to build it but it looks like a great project.........

Well, I unpacked the box today and read the instructions for the first time.
Doesn't look too daunting but it obviously needs to be done slowly

I also had a look around my tool shop to see what tools I might need to buy and so have placed an order for some additional specialist pieces with a French model builders site.

I have decided to build it in our Gîte, over the winter so I don't have to move it once I get started. It also has the bonus of WiFi, TV /. Radio and a kitchen for making tea etc.,

So, here is a picture of the kit and instruction sheets - a very comprehensive and detailed setup...................................

That's it? Are all the pieces there? Oh... I guess must be...just a lot of veneer with cut here marks.

Keep us posted on the project as you go along.

No Robert, all the parts that require cutting have already been laser cut but once freed from the board they will need final trimming I suppose.

The hull is made up of individual planks which you mount on the frame and then cut to size as in a full size ship. Image

I have been going through some old negatives from the late 1970's and I found this one of a model I built in the early 80's. Here is one for Archie.....................
Model 1.jpg
Designed by Dupuy de Lôme, in 1847 the Le Napoléon, would become the first steam-powered battleship as well as the first screw battleship ever built. She was 77.8 m (240 ft) in length, 17 m (55 ft) in breadth, and of 5,000 tons displacement, with two gun decks. She was launched in 1850, tried in 1852, and attained a speed of nearly 14 knots (26 km/h). During the Crimean War her performance attracted great attention, and soon there were plans to introduce steam power to fleets around the world.

So..........today I got my first pension payment into my French bank account so I decided to start the project as well by arranging the work space and taking the kit and some tools down .

Finally managed to get started on the building. I had forgotten just how long wood glue takes to dry
