One less flying WWII Navy sea plane

A movie is being made about the Indianapolis. That's the ship that delivered one of the original atomic bombs that was dropped on Japan. It was sunk returning from delivering the bomb to the island where the plane departed from. Nobody in the Navy missed it for a while and the men that survived the sinking were floating around being attacked by sharks until a Navy sea plane happened to pass by and spot them.

Well..... one of the last.. Navy sea planes of the vintage made a landing on the Gulf of Mexico while movie making , near the beach, and managed to take on water with the landing gear down. It stuck in the sand and after a number of attempts to recover it, was being hoisted to a barge and broke in half.

The Catalina always struck me as being a beautiful looking sea plane. Sad to see this old gal being maltreated

Always sad to see a warbird destroyed, and this video shows that the fuselage seems to have
broken into 3 pieces. Would seem tough to repair........
